The Junior Westwood Girls claimed the Conference Title at Lawton Tuesday night. The girls scored 168 points to runner up OA-BCIG's 90 points. The girls claimed 11 conference first place finishes. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100, and 200 dash (Nettleton tied the school record in the 100 dash in 12.96), East in the high jump and 1500, Nielson in the 10 Flight Hurdles, and Metcalf in the 200 Hurdles. Relay firsts went to the 10 Flight Shuttle Hurdle team of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford, Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Hanner, and Shilling, and the 4X100 of Shilling Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton. The cheers turned into tears as they ran their final victory lap as the undefeated season came to an end. They were silenced in knowing that their domination might not ever be repeated again. Awesome season ladies and very well deserved! They will celebrate their season at the track picnic next Wednesday at Southwoods.
On the eve of the conference at Mapleton the Junior High Lady Rebels came away with their widest margin of victory this season. Westwood scored 175 points to runner up OA-BCIG's 92 points. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100 and 200 dash, East in the 1500 meters, Metcalf in the 200 hurdles, and Alisha Nielson in the 10 Flight Hurdles. Relay first went to the Shuttle Hurdle of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz and Crawford, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling, 4 X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton, and the 4 X400 of Mendenhall, M. Whitney, Steinhoff, and East. Schelm finished strong in the 1500 to grabe 6th pklace. When told she received a pink ribbbon she exclaimed, "Pink is my favorite color!" Steinhoff after running her second 400 of the nigh in the victorious 4X400 relay gasped, "I love 400s! I'm following in my dad's footsteps!" The girls go for their second consecutive conference title tonight at Lawton. Abby "The Speed Demon" Crawford stated, "We are SO ready to be champs again! Bring it On!" Hope to see everyone tonight cheering on the Rebels at Lawton!
The Westwood Junior High girls continued their winning ways as they captured 13 of the 18 events Thursday night at River Valley. Westwood tallied 183 points for the night. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100, & 200, Wood in the 10 Flight Hurdles, Metcalf in the 200 Hurdles, and East in the 1500 with a new Junior High Girls School Record with a 5:30. Relay first went to the 4 X 800 of Holverson, Hines, K. Whitney, and Mendenhall, Shuttle Hurdle of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford. Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, 4X200 of Hanner, Cole, Reynolds, and Mendenhall, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling, 4X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton, and the 4X400 of Hines, M. Whitney, East, and Wood. Reynolds was heard saying on the bus ride home, "Oh, Yeah! I'm cool just like my blue ribbon!" Kelsey Whitney performed so well that she had tears in her eyes as she watched her Grandpa Chuck cheer her on. Good Job Lady Rebels on another victory!
The 7th grade junior high track girls came out to prove their abilities in front of a home crowd on Thursday night. The 7th grade cleaned house by scoring 101 points to Woodbury Central's 53 points and claiming 12 of the 14 events. Individual first went to M. Whitney in the long jump and 400 dash, East in the high jump and 800 meter run, Shilling in the 100 and 200 dash, and Wood in the 10 Flight hurdles. Relay first went to the Shuttle hurdle of M. Whitney, Toben, Metcalf, and Nielson, 400 Medley of Cole, Mendenhall, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, the 800 Meter Relay of Hanner, Cole Mendenhall and Steinhoff, the 800 Meter Medley Relay of Nielson, East, Hanner, and Wood, and the 400 Meter Relay of Hanner, Steinhoff, Cole, and Shilling. Shook was over heard saying, "That was so awesome, I wish track was a year round sport!" Alea Cole was also heard screaming after the meet, "We Won! We Won! I was totally inspired by the coaches speech to prove that Westwood is the best team around!"
On a hot afternoon in Kingsley the Junior High Girls Track continued their winning streak, scoring 176 points to second place Woodbury Central's 107 points. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100, and 200, Metcalf in the 200 Hurdles, East in the 1500, and Wood int he 10 Flights. Relay teams that grabbed first were the shuttle hurdle of M. Whitney, Holtz, Nielson, and Crawford, Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford and Shilling, and the 4 X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton. Individual 2nd places went to Collins int eh 10 Flights, Toben in the 200 Hurdles,and K. Whitney in the 800. JoAnna Hanner gets the good luck award after false starting in the Distance Medley and not getting disqualifed. She was overheard saying, "I am sure glad the starter had a blind eye." Holtz after celebrating the 176 point victory shouted out, "Bailey didn't get as many blues as I a am getting." The 7th grade girls will be back on the track Thursday at home.
In a display of dominance the Westwood Junior High Girls claimed the team title by scoring 122 points last night at the home meet. The Rebels claimed 15 first place finishes out of the 18 events. Claiming individual blues were Nettleton in the long jump, 100 meter dash, and 200 meter dash, Mykenzie Whitney in the 400 dash, Shook in the discus, East in the 1500 run, Wood in the 10 Flights, Metcalf in the 200 hurdles, and Kelsey Whitney in the 800 meter. Relays that claimed first were Holverson, K. Whitney, Hines, and Mendenhall in the 4 X800, M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford in the Shuttle Hurdle, Hanner, Shilling, Wood, and Metcalf in the Distance Medley, Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling in the Sprint Medley, Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton in the 4 X100, and Hines, M. Whitney, East and Wood in the 4X400. Mykenzie Whitney was heard saying after the meet, "My pre-meet injury didn't hurt me at all." Nettleton rejoiced after winning 4 blues quoted, "Blue is my favorite color!" Great job girls. They will be back in action in Kinglsey tonight up against some new tough competition they have not seen so far this year.
The Junior High Girls came out fired up on all 8 cylinders as they ran away from the competition Friday night at the Onawa meet. Westwood claimed the first place team title by scoring 164.5 points to 3A Sergeant Bluff-Luton's 108 points. Individual first went to Nettleton in the 200 meter dash and the long jump, Summer Wood in the 10 Flight Hurdles, and Paige Metcalf in the 200 meter hurdles. Relays that grabbed first included the Shuttle Hurdle team in school record time of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford, in another school record time the Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Wood, and Metcalf, the Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling, 4 X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton, and the 4X400 of M. Whitney, Hines, Hanner, and Wood. The Stealth Bomber went to Collins in the 10 Flight Hurdles. She shocked the world with 2nd place, just inches behind Wood . Other 2nd place individuals went to Nettleton in the 100, East in the 1500, K. Whitney in the 800, and Crawford in the high jump. Collins was overheard saying, "I don't know what happened to me. How did I run so fast?" Alyssa Mendenhall after outstanding performances gasped, "I love this sport, victory is Sweet." Great Job girls! They will be back in action Monday night at home.
